The score I've given here is very fair, because the hosting itself is fine and price competitive. But the support is terrible. I agree completely with what Leigh Fox said. Any contact with support is frustrating, to the point where realising you'll have to contact them is a complete heart sink.

The approach to support seems to be 'get this ticket off my desk', not 'help this customer'. There is almost inevitably a failure to get anywhere with one support request, either because the request is not properly read or because there is just no effort made to really investigate a problem. It always take multiple requests. And their favourite response? "Contact your developer". Well, that would be me, and I've been in this game since the mid 1990s. Sure, several follow up tickets down the line they eventually get things sorted - but never without a struggle and absolutely never with an apology for not dealing with it sooner.

I use several hosts, and work with clients using many others, and Blacknight support is among the worst, without question.

I've worked with a lot of hosting companies over the years and found some to be really helpful and others not so much. Blacknight Hosting from Ireland, are 'not so much'. Having spent time as a web host support person myself, I know what it's like to help people who struggle with technology and controls but lets face it, when you log in to a Control Panel these days there are so many features available and so much to learn that you're bound to need help with something at some stage. I just hope you don't find yourself turning to Blacknight for help. They are very inflexible, they have no creative thoughts and are purely reactionary. What I mean by this is they will only answer the question in front of them. They will not read between the lines or offer a suggestion based upon your question. Unless your question is perfectly phrased and technically accurate, they will answer it in ways that leave you completely frustrated. I have wasted many hours trying to pin them down to answer my questions as to what the hosting can and cannot do. They often pass the blame or use the phrase “speak to your developer” — well, I am the bloody developer and I’ve got 15 years’ experience in setting up websites and if I am struggling to use your system then chances are that others will as well. I will never use them again. Further to that … I will even refuse work from a client if their site is hosted on Blacknight. Avoid at all costs.
